On 12th November 2002 oil tanker Prestige sinks off the Galitian shores, starting to gush out its 77000 tonnes of oil load. In spite of the attempts to stem the outpour, the ecological catastrophe is inevitable committed. The Spanish government failing its prompt intervention, a month after that catastrophe, hundreds of miles of beaches were dirtied by "chapapote", a reeking pitch which had splashed out of the tanker, which covered rocks, animals and whatever was within distance with its horrible stench. A group of fifty Belgians volunteered to help the locals, too late for the fishermen though.
