The life of little Sosuke proceeds normally until a goldfish named Ponyo very much resembling a human emerges from the sea. The two soon form a friendship; and despite Ponyo's father's strong misgivings, Ponyo decides to turns herself into a human by means of a filter that alters the marine balance.
