Les Pygmées Bagyéli à la Lisière du Monde

The Bagyeli Pygmies at the Fringes of the World

« Before, we were poor but we didn't know it because we lived contentedly in the forest » Discovering the outside world, the Bagyeli Pygmies have seen that they are very poor. Their hunting culture allowed them to live in the jungle of South Cameroon for thousands of years, but outside they were considered like animals or slaves by a society dominated by farmers. And when the Exxon pipeline arrived in the Pygmie's forest aided by the World Bank, our bureaucracy is worse with them than the farmers. Angeline, Marcelline and Pascal belong to that generation who have discovered cars, solid houses and money, and strongly resent that they don't have right to all that. Following their personal dreams of integration, they encounter the complexities of change that the real world imposes on hunters-gatherers In allowing a close and intimate shooting for seven months, they revealed their attractive personnalities. And from their point of view, the film tell us about a universal story : a small population that doesn't want to disappear.
