He studied engineering and mathematics before turning to photography and documentary filmmaking at the Ateliers Varan, Paris, where he was co-director from 1988 to 1989. In 1996 he founded Atelier Video, Palermo, together with Fausta Quattrini with whom he filmed La nación mapuche, screened at the 2007 Torino Film Festival, and then directed El Impenetrable (2012).
