Aessandro Pugno

Alessandro Pugno (b. 1983, Casale Monferrato) studied philosophy in
Bologna, where he entered the world of images as photography assistant
for architecture magazines. But his real education began on a scooter,
trains, and ships while traveling throughout the Mediterranean (Italy,
France, Greece, Spain, Portugal) to discover people and places and find
inspiration. A collection of his travel impressions was exhibited in a
photography show entitled "La giostra" (Seville, 2005) and published in a
poetry collection Fili d'oro tra le ortiche, which won the coveted
Premio Lorenzo Montano 2006. After working in Spain as a documentary
film editor, he returned to Italy to form the Papavero Films company,
for which he directed his first film, La culla delle aquile, which
earned him numerous awards at national and foreign film festivals. In
2008 he attended a masters class conducted by Werner Herzog, one of
contemporary cinema's outstanding directors. Pugno writes for web
magazines and blogs. His analyses of modern society follow a
visual-philosophical thread evident in his filmmaking: can philosophy be
done through images?
