Born in Lisbon in 1942, he graduated with an Arts degree from Lisbon university. From a very early age he managed cinemas and cineclubs in the Portuguese capital and in Porto. Writes as film critic for numerous magazines and newspapers, and has published more than 50 essays since the beginning of 2 the Sixties. Film director and screenwriter of Manha Submersa, O Vestito Cor de Fogo, A Parodia, Novo Elucidario Madeirense, which were all received with great interest by the critics, film festivals and distribution networks all over the world. He has also directed the television series "Historias de Mulheres" and conceived and conducted the programme "Lauro Antonio Apresenta...". He teaches cinema and audio-visual languages at various Portuguese universities and is involved in the organization and management of various film festivals including the predominantly environmentalist CineEco in Sierra de Estrema.
