Leo Hickman

Journalist UK

36 years old, he is a features journalist and editor at «The Guardian» newspaper in London, where he has worked for the past 10 years. In 2003 he began an unusual experiment in which he and his family lived ethically correct for one year, reducing to a minimum their impact on the planet. A running account of the experiment was given in his weekly column on ethical living for «The Guardian» and in his book A Life Stripped Bare: My Year Trying to Live Ethically (2005). His analysis of the social, economic and environmental consequences of mass tourism – after visiting 12 popular tourist villages around the world – is summed up in The Final Call: In Search of the True Cost of Our Holidays (2007). He has made numerous TV appearances on CNN, Sky News, BBC and Rai Uno. He is currently writing a children’s book about climate change.
