Jean Vercoutère has directed numerous social documentaries: L'Africain volant (1996), about the only helicopter pilot in Botswana; Paludisme, l'hécatombe silencieuse (1999), about the spread of malaria in Africa, and first prize winner at the Festival du film scientifique d'Oullins (Lyon); L'état de droit (2002), about Franceès ailing internal revenue service, commissioned by France3. His most recent films, Signes particuliers (2003), Le Piedà l'étrier (2005) and Dyslexie, le mal des mots examine the world of persons with disabilities.
