Born in 1977, in Alba, Italy, he earned a degree in art criticism from DAMS, Turin, and currently lives and works in a deconsecrated church in Verduno (Cuneo), Italy. Since his first one-man and collective shows, Berruti’s basic images have consistently dealt with the subject of feelings, daily life, and family ties. “Sacre rappresentazioni” (Sacred Images) (2002) held at Spirale Arte, Milan, was curated by Alessandro Riva; “Familienwerte” (Family Values) (2003) was a one-man show presented at the Galerie Markus Nohn, Frankfurt/Main; “Icone Domestiche” (Domestic Icons) (2004) was shown at Spazio Obraz, Milan. In 2004 he received the Premio Celeste in the Established Artists category and the Premio Pagine Bianche awarded by the Region of Piemonte. His one-man show “Ho meritato il tuo castigo” (I Deserved your Punishment) (2005) held at the Officina 14, Rome, was curated by Lorenzo Canova. He was selected by the International Studio and Curatorial Program as the only Italian artist for a work-study program at the Esso Gallery, New York, where his show “Golgota” (Golgotha) was presented. The installation “Se ci fosse la luna” (Were there the Moon) (2006) was shown at Palazzo Bricherasio, Turin. His works were exhibited in the “Uniforms and Costumes” collective show held in the Herzliya Museum of Contemporary Art, Israel. Other shows where his works have been exhibited include a one-man show, “Magnificat”, at the Keumsan Gallery, Seoul, Korean, selection for the “13th Biennial of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean”, and “Detour”, a collective show at the Centre Pompidou, Paris.
