Born in 1963, he earned a degree in earth sciences from the University of Genoa in 1988 and a masters in environmental engineering from the Politecnico, Turin, in 1990. He then continued his studies in France, Belgium, and the U.S. For 14 years he was responsible for research projects in natural risks, environmental technologies, climate change, sustainable development and energy at the General Direction of Research of the European Commission, Brussels. He taught courses on European environmental policies at the Polytechnic, Milan, and the University of Miami, and collaborated with the European Council vice president as advisor for energy and the environment. He is currently president of IRIDE Energia, member of the board of directors of Nucleo SpA and member of the board of directors of ENEA (National Council for Nuclear and Alternative Energies).
