Richard O’Barry

Environmentalist, founder Dolphin Project Association USA

Played a central role in the Oscar-winning film The Cove (2009). Since the 1960s he has been a noted dolphin trainer, having worked for the popular U.S. TV series Flipper. After one of his dophins died in his arms he decided to devote his life to the defense of cretaceans and launched a campaign against their capture. In 1970 he founded the Dolphin Project Association through which the lives of dolpins around the world have been saved. He is a member of the National Explorers Club; he received the Environmental Achievement Award, promoted by the UN Environmental Program. Book titles to his credit include Behind the Dolphin Smile (1989) and To Free A Dolphin (2000).
