An old friend of CinemAmbiente, he is a climatologist and a pioneer in environmental communication. President of the Italian Meteorological Society, his research interests are the climate and Alpine glaciers. He teaches courses on sustainability in Italy andabroad. He practices sustainability at home, which is equipped with solar panels, drives an electric car, and grows a garden. He is editor-in-chief of the journal Nimbus and writes for two TV programs (Scala Mercalli and Pillole di Mercalli on the RAI news channel), editorials for La Stampa, and has a lengthy bibliography of articles and communications for international conferences.
