(Reggio Emilia 1951) Degree in Chemistry from Bologna University. After holding a number of different and important positions in various institutions, in the Nineties he was appointed Councillor for the Environment in Milan and Lecturer at Venice University, Udine University and Milan University and Polytechnic. Between 1994 and 2002 he was elected a Permanent Member of the Scientific Committee of the European Environmental Agency, of which he is now an Honorary Permanent Member. He founded and chairs Macroscopio, Institute of Eco-energy analysis and planning. One of the founder members of Legambiente, and a long-standing director for more than twenty years. Today he is chairman of Greenpeace Italia.
