Devastated by the death of his best friend, his world violently shaken by the loss, Massimiliano leaves on a journey that takes him to Rome, London, San Francisco, and Black Rock Desert, Nevada, a remote area of treeless mountains, rugged canyons, and dry lakebeds. Since 1986 it is also the site of the Burning Man annual art event and temporary community based on radical self expression and self-reliance, somewhat reminiscent of the counterculture and the hippie gatherings of the 1960s.
