Il posto dell'anima

The Place of the Soul
by Riccardo Milani Fiction Italy 2002 106'

Riccardo Milani describes the odyssey of a group of workers in Abruzzo dismissed by a multinational tire manufacturer.
The greatest merit of a film like "The Place of the Soul" is in the multifaceted and nuanced representation of the working class condition through the heterogeneous portrayal of the three protagonists:
Michele Placido, pure and tough trade unionist; Silvio Orlando, a dreamer in love with the land of him; Claudio Santamaria, cynical-pragmatist all anger and vitality, accompanied by the portrait of a woman, sweet and strong at the same time by Paola Cortellesi. Scripted by the director together with the writer Domenico Starnone, "The Place of the Sou"l boasts an epic-dreamlike breath that distances it from the chronicle of English workers' cinema.
