Koganei, the outskirts of Tokyo, 2010. Arrietty is 14 years old and lives with her parents beneath the floor of a large country house. She is a borrower, a creature that lives by recycling what humans throw away while keeping its existence unknown. All this changes when Arrietty is discovered by ShÁ´, a boy who must rest before undergoing a heart operation. After overcoming initial diffidence, the two become close friends before being separated for ever.
