Superottimisti is a project for recovering memory through the recovery, digitalization and archiving of amateur film resources in 8 mm and Super8 formats. For the past two years, the association Documentary in Europe, together with other audiovisual producers in Piemonte, has been collecting a valuable film resource that with time risks being forgotten in the cellars and attics of amateur cineastes. The archive material consists of images amateur photographers have put on film: significant moments from private life and surroundings, highly personal views of landmark historic events"”not only baptisms, weddings, and vacations but changes to the face of the environment and cities and changes in style of living, of which they were witnesses. The aim of the project is to preserve these images, rendering them accessible to researchers, academics, cinematographic producers and whoever else may be interested in them. Scenes from family events, village festivals, public events, faces, weather conditions, outdoor places that have disappeared: filmed with just a plain camera yet faithfully documenting the ritual of a family celebration. Evening presentations comprise evocative images selected from the nearly 80 hours of the Superottimisti archive material, with musical accompaniment by the group Non toccate il cane nero.
