Steve Butler, an energy company salesman, is sent together with his co-worker Sue to a small town in rural Pennsylvania in an attempt to persuade the land owners to sign mineral rights leases that would grant the company the drilling rights for the natural gas under their property. What had seemed an easy and quick plan soon comes up against the resistance of some residents. The arrival of Dustin Noble, an environmental activist who wins the citizens' respect, complicates matters even further.
