Crimini di pace

by Antonio Bellia Documentary Italia 2003 46'

Sicily in the triangle between Melilli, Priolo and Augusta, havoc has been taking place for years. The oil finding and the illusion of an immediate industrial development in the area led the land owners to sell off their lands to Enichem. Leaving their occupation as farmers and fishermen to become workmen. The factories produced waste, and caused an immense outpour of oil into the sea. The consequences to this disastrous pollution have resulted in an increase of tumours. The mercury concentration reached up to 500 times the utmost limit of human tolerance. The impact on child deformity is four times higher than national average. An investigation on the poisons which ... far from news report spotlights ... continue killing. The film has been produced thanks to fund raising.
