Set up by lawyer Ludwig Minelli, a supporter of euthanasia as a basic human right, Zurich-based Dignitas is the only facility in the world authorized to provide assisted suicide deaths. The film chronicles the final four days of terminally ill Craig Ewert, a U.S. citizen, who is admitted to Dignitas to die; and the story of a Canadian couple, Betty and George Coumbias, he with final-stage heart disease, who come to Switzerland to decide whether or not to avail of Dignitas' services. Devoid of sensationalism, this groundbreaking documentary treats end of life issues courageously and explores the complexities of the moral and ethical implications they carry.
