Devil Comes to Koko

by Alfie Nze Documentary 2015 49'

Obsessed by the story of the infamous dumping of toxic waste by an Italian businessman in the coastal village of Koko in the Niger River Delta, the playwright Alfie Nze returns to Nigeria in search of recollections. There he discovers the "Sack of Benin", one of the most glaring incidents of wholesale identity and art theft in modern history that took place during Britain's reprisal attack on Benin in 1897. In his mind, not only were Europeans responsible for two of the greatest outrages in his country's history. The twin strands of the stories will form the base of Nze's new play. A meeting with the director will be held after the showing
