Backlight: Beyond the Green Horizon

by Martijn Kieft  Netherlands 2018 44'

Now that the shift toward the use of renewable energy sources has gained official momentum, it is estimated that two-thirds of the world’s energy will be sustainable by 2050. Assuming that this change will have wide-reaching effects on politics, the economy, culture, and the environment, the film enlists the help of experts in environmentalism, architecture, and urbanism to explore the changes we can already see and possible scenarios. Wind turbines and solar panel factories will replace the old coal mines, there will be highly energy efficient homes to live in, battery recharging stations instead of gas stations to power our cars. These are just some examples of the dramatic changes that will redesign the landscape and our daily life.
