The design and development of Italy's first photovoltaic installation financed by private citizens: starting from an idea of Mario Mariano, a biological farmer from the province of Cuneo, the "Adopt One KW" project was launched in 2007, with a coalition of about 50 subscribers around Italy who wanted to use eco-friendly energy produced independently. The result: a system of solar panels that can produce nearly 25,000 kWh yearly. Plus: the start up of the non-profit Solare Collettivo in 2009 derived from the original project, demonstrating that alternative, clean eco-sustainable grassroots solutions can be found that also help save money.
