Imider, southeast Morocco. Nearby is Africa’s largest silver mine. Mining activities have exhausted the aquifers. Threatened by desertification, in summer 2011 the community of Amazigh staged protect actions and gained access to a pipeline that supplied water to the mine. Despite counteractions by the mining company and local authorities, the initiative has become a “Mouvement sur la route 96” that resides in a village supplied with solar energy. Peaceful resistance continues with all means necessary: song, weekly assembly, a photo camera, film festivals, and other creative events.
