The 22nd CinemAmbiente Festival will be devoted to the Green Generation

20 May 2019

The 22nd CinemAmbiente Festival – 31 May through 5 June 2019 – will be devoted to the Green Generation in recognition of the engagement by young people in the local and global battle for development policies that maintain ecological balance. The first and most important environmental film festival in Italy, and numbering among the major events of its kind in the world, this year’s vast and varied Festival program reflects the growth of environmental film production internationally and its expansion into areas of critical interest for ever wider audiences.

Besides showcasing recent films selected from among national and foreign productions, the Festival provides a unique perspective for analyzing – and often anticipating - the issues at stake in the environment debate. This year’s Festival is special in that it directs the spotlight on youth environmental activism, which has attracted recent international attention to the problems facing the planet and the need to confront climate change effectively and soon. .

The Green Wave, launched by the battles of 16-year-old Greta Thunberg and now confluent in the #FridaysForFuture movement, has also reached the movies. The new environmental activism, the origins of which last year’s Festival recognized by awarding the film Aktivisti about a militant 15-year-old’s battles – has garnered the interest of filmmakers and documentarists and turned the Millennials and Generation Z into the main actors in many films.

Overall, the Festival program includes 120 films that will be shown in four competition sections (international documentary, One Hour documentary, Italian documentary, international short film), Panorama, and Special Events for films not running in the competitions. .

An autonomous section created for last year’s Festival returns as CinemAmbiente Junior, which is reserved for schools (primary and lower and upper secondary levels). CinemAmbiente Junior will host a short film competition and a series of film showings and learning workshops starting 22 March.
