Samba – Sustainable mobility behaviours in the alpine region

5 October 2021 14:30 Cinema Massimo - Sala Soldati

SaMBA (Sustainable Mobility Behaviours in the Alpine Region), of which the Region of Piemonte is project leader, is co-financed by the European Fund for Regional Development through the Interreg Spazio Alpino program. The objective of SaMBA is to promote low-emission mobility in the alpine region through policies and strategies that incentivize citizens to change their mode of transport. The alpine region is defined by landscapes of high biodiversity and sensitive ecosystems that make it a single natural system inhabited by over 14 million people. Environmental challenges demand political responses to protect the area. People need to be encouraged to use their own car less often or to switch to alternative means. Transnational cooperation is vital for defining efficient policies that can be shared throughout the region. The SaMBA Project involved 13 partners from five countries (Italy, France, Austria, Slovenia, Germany) and rolled out nine pilot case studies. SaMBA has also developed and implemented compensation and taxation policies to drive change in mobility patterns, as well as designed a tool that can inform agencies about estimating the impact of behavioral change in mobility.
