The Italo-Palestinian New Urban Resources (NUR) project is based on a cooperation agreement signed in 2015 between Turin and Bethlehem with the objective to support local development. Coordinated by the city office of international cooperation and peace, NUR has a comprehensive goal of environmental sustainability by increasing the availability of renewable energy in the Bethlehem area (pop. 30,000) through the installation of solar panels, technical assistance for ensuring efficient energy supply, professional training for students and artisans, and the launch of five new start-ups incubated at the University of Bethlehem. The aim is to encourage saving energy and to improve the governance of renewable energy through an energy plan for Bethlehem, proclaimed Arab Capital of Culture 2021. To raise awareness among citizens about renewable energy, the Coordinamento Comuni per la Pace, a NUR partner, collaborated with students from the vocational schools Avogadro, Turin, Majorana, Grugliasco, Pininfarina, Moncalieri, and the Centro Enaip, Rivoli, to create an animated short film entitled NUR, la luce che viaggia and three short films on saving energy, with suggestions for citizens, schools, and local agencies.
