Marco Bonfanti debuted with the short Le parole di Stockhausen (2008) filmed on a budget of 6 euros and shortlisted for the Cannes International Film Festival. He then directed Ordalìa (dentro di me) (2009), followed by his first feature, L'ultimo pastore.
