first release of his first feature film "Ma che ci faccio qui?" ("What am I doing here?") in theatres all across the country, distributed by Istituto Luce. The film is also his final graduation work at Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, and it's produced by CSC, Raicinema and Istituto Luce.
The film is presented at several festivals, Sao Paulo in Brazil and Karlovy Vary in Czech Republic among many others. It is also awarded several awards like "best female actress performance" at Annecy festival (France) and "best film" at NICE USA festival.
Francesco Amato is also nominated at David di Donatello and Globo d'Oro as "best first feature film director" in 2007

july 2004
directs the short movie "Il nano più alto del mondo" ("the tallest dwarf in the world"), produced by Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, taken from the short story "Gaby la nana" by Giovanni Arpino

partecipates at the realisation of the feature film "I gabbiani" ("seagulls"), under Francesca Archibugi's supervision. The film is based on "the seagull" by Anton Chekhov, and it's presented by students of the movie direction school at Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia at Venice film festival. It's also broadcasted on national TV channel RaiTre

september 2003
writes the scripts and then directs the short movie "Autoritratto" ("self portrait"), produced by Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia.
The short movie is awarded the special jury prize at Belgrade festival (Serbia), the Shortvillage award at "Corto in Bra" (Italy), the Visioni Emiliano-romagnole award at Visioni italiane festival (Italy), and a Menzione speciale ("special mention") at Nastri d'argento movie awards

march 2003
directs one of the episodes of the "Carlo Alberto" documentary film, realized together with his fellow students of the movie direction school at Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia

directs the full-length documentary film "Questa è la mia terra" ("this is my land"), about foreign workers in Italy, produced by the City of Bologna.
The documentary is awarded the Eurac award at Borderlands festival in Bolzano (Italy), and the public's award at Videopolis contest in Padova (Italy)

directs the full-length documentary "Vietato sostare sul portone" ("no halting by the main door") about the homeless people of Bologna. Produced by the city of Bologna and Coop adriatica

works as assistant director for Pupi Avati on the set of his feature film "Il cuore altrove".
Also works as assistant director for Luca Guadagnini for several tv commercials

june 2001
directs the short movie "Figlio di penna" ("pen son"), produced by Cometa film and Studio Universal.
The short film is awarded the Jameson prize at Torino film festival (Italy) as best italian short movie, the Fice prize at Visioni Italiane festival in Bologna (Italy), and the Kodak prize at CinePorto festival in Roma (Italy).
The short movie is also selected by the 2002 edition of the Cannes film festival (France) for its "La sémaine de la critique" section.
It is then distributed in italian theatres by Fice and I.M.C. (Gustocorto)
