Mari Correa


Born in Paris in 1953, Vincent Carelli moves to Brazil where he studies Social Sciences in São Paulo. In 1976 he starts working as a photographer and journalist for some newspapers and magazines such as Folha de São Paulo, Movimento and Coojornal. In these years he founds the Centro de Trabalho Indigenista and publishes A guerrilla do Araguaia. In 1987 he devises and starts the project Video in the Villages, enabling the natives to shoot their life by themselves. In the "˜90s he shoots many documentaries, which are awarded, including Free-for-all in SarareÌ€ (1992), Meeting Ancestors (1993), Video Cannibalism (1995), Jungle Secrets (1998), Indian on Tv (2000). Mari Correa da Silva Rimaud, French-Brazilian, director, screenwriter and documentary editor, is coordinator of the "Video in the Villages" project, together with Vincent Carelli. She is in charge of the training workshops for native directors. For the project he has co-directed the documentaries AGENDA 31 (2002) and Video in the villages introduces itself (2000). In 1995-96 she directed the documentary Xingu, o Corpo e os Espíritos, awarded Best Documentary Prize at the Musée de l'Homme Ethnographic Film Festival in Paris.
