Vittorio De Seta was born in Palermo in 1923. In the early fifties he started working as assistant director and co-screenwriter of Jean-Paul Le Chanois. Between 1954 and 1955 he shot some among the best documentaries ever made, titles like Lu tempu de li pisci spata or Contadini del mare are famous all over Europe as classics of documentary films. With his first long feature film Banditi a Orgosolo (1961), he won the FICC prize at Venice Festival.
