Carroll Ballard directed her first documentaries in the late 1960s. Since then she has made fiction features such as Oscar-nominated Black Stallion (1979) and Wind (1992). Duma (2005), her most recent film, deals with the friendship between a young boy and a cheetah in Kenya.
