Hiroshi Shinomiya

   

Hiroshi Shinomiya, born in Sendai, Japan, in 1958. In 1984 he began working at Dentsu Film, where he made TV commercials and promotional videos . In 1988 he decided to make a documentary about the children of Manila, which he began shooting the following year with his film on the lives of youngster s who live near the Smoky Mountain dump just north of Manila. Shooting lasted until 1991. He made more trips to the Philippines and in 1994 completed filming for Chimney Sweeps , a long documentary shot in Tagalog . In 2000 he joined the residents of the Payatas dump, and completed Kami no k o tachi in 2001.
