He came to journalism through his interest in alpine mountaineering. He was chief editor of «Rivista della Montagna» and founding director of the monthly magazine «Alp» and the Italian edition of the quarterly «L’Alpe». He has authored numerous books on the history and literature of mountaineering ; six of his novels are set in historic periods. He has chaired the scientific committee for exhibitions at the Alpine Museum in Bard Fortress, the interactive museum in Vinadio Fortress, and the newly refurbished Museo Nazionale della Montagna Duca degli Abruzzi, Turin. He is currently vice president of the association Dislivelli.
