Award-winning director, she has made numerous documentaries, video portraits, and fiction films. Her directorial debut film was Una casa in bilico (1985), which garnered her the Nastro d’Argento award for best first film. Following Racconti di Vittoria (1995), awarded at Venice, and Maruzzella (1997), an episode in the collective film I Vesuviani, she directed Non è giusto (2001). Il Resto di Niente (2004) received three David di Donatello awards and five Nastri d’Argento nominations.
