Gianfranco Pannone

Director Italy

Born in Naples in 1963, he lives and works in Rome. Between 1990 and 1998, he directed and produced the documentaries: Piccola America, Lettere dall’America and L’America a Roma, that make up the "Trilogia dell’America" ("American Triology"). He later made Latina/Littoria (2001), judged best non-fiction work at the Turin Film Festival. His medium-length films include Pomodori (1999), Sirena operaia (2000), Viaggio intorno alla mia casa  (2001), and Pietre, miracoli e petrolio (2004). Together with Marco Puccioni, he directed the documentary Cent’anni della nostra storia, to celebrate the centenary of the CGIL (2006), and in 2007 he directed the Rai3 serial documentary filmed in Naples Cronisti di strada. In 2005 hestaged the show  Il frutto amaro, based on the book Guerra civile: 1943-1945-1948, by Pasquale Chessa, which was subsequently repeated at the Festival dei due mondi di Spoleto (Spoleto Festival of the Two Worlds). Many of his works have been greatly appreciated at numerous festivals. Founder member of Doc/It, he teaches documentary cinema at the Dams university in Rome, and film directing at the Zelig School in Bolzano and at the Act in Rome. He has written various publications on non-fiction cinema and is responsible for the Docbox column in the on-line magazine «Il documentario.it».
