Richard Linklater (1961), studied literature at Sam Houston State University before founding the Austin Film Society in 1985 for the distribution of independent films and cinema d'auteur. He debuted as director with Slacker (1991), produced by his production company, Detour Productions, followed by: Dazed and Confused (1993); Before Sunrise (1995), Silver Berlin Bear winner at the Berlin International Film Festival; SubUrbia (1996); Newton Boys (1998); Tape (2001); Waking Life (2001); School of Rock (2003); Before Sun- set (2004); Bad News Bears (2005); A Scanner Darkly (2006).
