Stefano Mancuso

Plant neurobiologist Italy

Founder of plant neurobiology and full professor at the University of Florence and ordinary academic member of the Accademia dei Georgofili, he directs the International Laboratory of Plant Neurobiology, with facilities in Florence, Kitakyushu, Bonn, and Paris. He is founding member of the International Society for Plant Signaling & Behavior and winner of the 2016 “Wissenschaftsbuch des Jahres” prize awarded by the Austrian Ministry of Science and Technology for the best scientific text. He has published over 300 scientific articles and numerous books, including Verde brillante, Plant Revolution, Uomini che amano le piante, and Biodiversi (co-authored with Carlo Petrini). Through the start-up PNAT he created Jellyfish Barge, a floating, self-sufficient and eco-sustainable greenhouse presented at Expo 2015. He is the first Italian scientist to be invited to give a TED-Global conference. The conference was held in Oxford in 2010 and has been seen by over 1 million viewers.
