Received a degree in the history of cinema with a thesis on Monte Helman. He is mainly interested in documentary films. His directorial debut film was You Gotta Move (1989), followed by Il Signor Rossi Prese il Fucile (1994), No Man’s Land (1995), Benvenuto in San Salvario (1999), winner of the European Academy Award, the fiction feature Sotto il sole nero (2005), Scemi di Guerra (2008), Vite da Recupero (2011), and A Spasso con i Fantasmi (2018), with a screenplay by Beppe Culicchia who also appeared in the film. He teaches film and video and film and digital photography at the Politecnico di Torino. He is coordinator of A.I.A.C.E. Torino.
