Pupi Avati was born in Bologna on 3rd November 1938. After finishing university, he releases his first film in 1968 Balsamus, l'uomo di Satana marking a period of unconventional films in the panorama of Italian film making: Bordella, 1975, La casa dalle finestre che ridono, Tutti defunti tranne i morti. After working on television productions he releases autobiographical films Le strelle nel fosso, 1979, Una gita scolastica, 1983 and Festa di laurea, 1985. Other films followed 1986's Regalo di Natale, and the more recent I cavalieri che fecero l'impresa, 2001.
